FEBRUARY 2021 NEWSLETTER
LETTER FROM OUR DIRECTOR

Greetings! We are excited to move ahead in 2021 and are looking forward to a time, yet undetermined, when we will invite you back into the building. Until then, we hope that you will take advantage of our porch side service, our many virtual programs and eResources including eBooks and eAudiobooks available through Overdrive and hoopla.

This month, we will do an inventory of the entire collection (something we do every other year) from Monday, February 22 through Wednesday, February 24. During these three days, there will be no porch side service, no scheduled use of our computers... we will not even be answering the telephone. The ability to Reserve items will also be suspended during this time, but you can return items to the book drop, which we will be checking each day. We will resume our current services beginning on Thursday, February 25th

Thank you as always for your understanding during this time!  Take care!

Marcia Atilano, Library Director

CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS
At this time, both Tuesday and Friday Story Times will be virtual recordings. Please continue to register as if you would attend in person!

We want to prepare and provide as full a story time opportunity as possible, virtually! Your continued registration will do several things: provide you with a virtual story time link via email, reserve your family special DIY activity bags for that story time, and registration also allows us to better prepare materials for your family.

Recordings of both weekly story times, Mother Goose on the Loose and Friday Discovery Time, are available for viewing whenever your family desires. Winter Window Garden will also be recorded. Select from 20 of the most recent story time recordings. In addition, the DIY Craft Videos are also available for viewing. If you would like a companion DIY Bag with supplies, simply email your request, by specific title, to: childrenslibrarian@dscl.org

EXCITING NEWS FOR YOUR STUDENTS!
Here's one more reason to get a library card at the Dripping Springs Community Library! DSCL and DSISD Libraries have joined forces to combine our digital reading power. If you use Sora, the digital reading app for students, you can now access titles from DSISD or DSCL at the same time. Sora provides safe browsing for school-age kids to access age-appropriate titles from both the district centers and the DSCL. A couple of high school kids discovered this new feature the other day and came running into the library, phones in the air, fighting over one another to show me this new thing they discovered-and it’s hard to get that kind of reaction from teenagers. As they so eloquently pointed out, this new feature is a game-changer, the best of both worlds. One can’t underestimate the value here; it is everything to kids to be able to access the world outside of this upside-down reality. They are genuinely elated to have this option. Nothing builds strong literacy skills and the love of reading like exposure and access to rich and varied literature, and the partnership between the school and the community is a step in the right direction.
