MAY 2021 NEWSLETTER
LETTER FROM OUR DIRECTOR

According to the American Library Association’s State of America’s Libraries 2020 – Public Libraries report more people are visiting public libraries. Gallup did a poll that showed visiting the library is the ‘most common cultural activity Americans engage in by far.” In fact, the average 10.5 trips to the library that adults took in 2019 exceeds their participation in eight other leisure activities. Do click on the link to read more.

DSCL staff is excited to open our doors to an almost pre-COVID-19 schedule beginning Monday, May 3rd. Please remember that our hours remain from 9am-6pm Mon-Wed; 9am-7pm Thu; 11am-4pm Sat. You will now be able to browse and check out books. There will be limited seating available, first come first served for those who have their own devices and need to use DSCL Wi-Fi. In the Children’s wing, the play areas, puzzles and computers will be unavailable, but you can still browse and check out books. Do remember that we are still training new staff which may affect service. Masking will be optional, so please respect distancing, especially from those who choose to continue to wear a mask.

We are looking forward to seeing you in the library! Take care!

Growing Things at the Library

Basil seeds have sprouted and are now growing at the library. Sprouting indoors is easy, but growing seedlings can be a challenge since herbs require hours of sunlight to grow strong sturdy stems! Watch the video to avoid some of my pitfalls! All the DIY Seeds & Soil bags have gone home. We would love to see your efforts if you share a photo of your seedlings.

Greetings Friends,

The Friends of the Dripping Springs Library are thrilled to announce that we donated $17,000.00 to the library this year. While COVID-19 made fundraising challenging, thanks to our hardworking volunteers and the generosity of the community, YOU DID IT!

We’ve been planning and have lots of ideas for both fun and fundraising—while taking proper health precautions. Working together, we serve our local library and increase literacy efforts in the area.

To put these exciting ideas in action, we need more members. You can:

  • Join the Friends. Your membership donation goes directly to further services and programs at the library.
  • Share this invitation with a friend or your neighborhood association.
  • Volunteer as a Board member or to help in activities such as the Book & Bake Sale, Pouring Over Books, Christmas on Mercer, and more.
  • Donate your used books, in good condition, for our Book Sale. Bring them to the Big Blue Bin at Sententia Vera Cultural Hub, anytime.
  • Keep up with all our news by following us on Facebook!

Look for the Friends table on the Library Porch on Monday, May 3rd, as we celebrate the Reopening of the Library. If you join the Friends that day, you’ll get an outstanding free book bag to carry your books.

Big Used Book and Bake Sale

Saturday, May 22, 9 am-2 pm

Teresa Carbajal Ravet, a Friends Board member, generously allowed us to use the shaded side porch of her business, Sententia Vera Cultural Hub, 4002 E. Hwy 290. It will be in the fresh air, but we ask you to wear your mask while shopping.

We anticipate having over 2,000 used books for sale, including children's, fiction, and southwestern history and Texana from two estates.

Childrens’ books will all be only fifty cents, and the other books will be priced from $1.00 to $4.00 with a few collectible books at higher prices.

  • Questions? Want to show off your mad baking skills with a Bake Sale donation? Email Cindy at  vicepresident@fodscl.org
